Why are smoothies good for me?

Triple Berry Smoothie Bowl is packed with berries that have loads of antioxidants that help to fight free radicals, which would destroy the body when given a chance to. An antioxidant is simply a chemical compound that protects cells against the effects of free radicals, which protect the cells and help the body fight disease. In addition according to scientific research consuming berries also help to prevent memory loss.

Strong scientific evidence exists that eating blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and other berry fruits has beneficial effects on the brain and may help prevent age-related memory loss and other changes, scientists report. Their new article on the value of eating berry fruits appears in ACS’ Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/03/120307145825.htm

2. How do berries benefit my health?

Berries are loaded in fiber which helps persons with diabetes. Even though they are sweet, the fiber helps with keeping the blood sugar level normal. In addition, berries are low glycemic index foods, which means they have little effect on a diabetic’s blood sugar.

3. What are the five benefits of eating Berries?

  • Berries lower the LDL cholesterol and increase the HDL cholesterol.
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Helps fight diabetes
  • Low in calories
  • High in fiber

4. What is the benefit of adding chia seeds to your smoothie?

Chia seeds are high in fiber, and as a result may aid in lowering cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and high blood pressure. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)Trusted Source National Nutrient Database, a 28 g (1 ounce) or 2 1/2 tbsp serving of chia seeds contains:

  • 131 calories (kcal)
  • 8.4 g of fat
  • 13.07 g of carbohydrate
  • 11.2 g of fiber
  • 5.6 g of protein
  • 0 g sugar

Chia seeds also contain:

  • calcium
  • zinc
  • iron
  • magnesium
  • phosphorous

You can also find folate, vitamin A, and copper in chia.

5. What benefit would one receive using the plant-based protein powder in a smoothie vs. whey?

Plant-based protein powder used as an additive in smoothies can bring fullness and help with giving satiety. Because it is plant-based it will aid in lowering cholesterol levels. It is as comparative in building muscle as whey when used in smoothies. According to studies, a high-protein, exclusively plant-based diet supports muscle strength and mass gains in response to resistance training just as well as a high-protein diet that includes animal foods, according to a study published in Sports Medicine.

6. What will you need?

Once you have a blender or a Nutri bullet, you can make this smoothie happen. I love my Vitamix. I remember when I bought my first Vitamix, to me it was like going from a toy to the real deal. Use what you have, just get it done.

7. What would I do first?

I peel my banana and freeze them in freezer-safe containers or baggies. I next wash my berries and freeze them. Once they are all frozen, I simply add my fruit to the blender. I then add my sugar-free almond or soy milk.  Of course, there are many options available that one can use. Some of these options include:

  • Coconut milk
  • Almond milk
  • Soymilk
  • Hempseed Milk
  • Coconut water

Once the ingredients are all in the blender, I blend until it is smooth. Pour into your favorite bowl or Glass and enjoy!

Triple Berry Smoothie

I happen to love smoothies so much, that I would make them for my children often. They grew to look forward to the sound of the blender in the early morning hours and would bounce down the stairs to see what mommy had created for them. Smoothies are fun, easy, and a great way to get in a lot of nutrients in an easy, delicious, colorful way.  It is amazing how the beautiful colors can truly attract the attention of children and adults alike.
