“Something Better”—The Law of True Living— “Something better” is the watchword of education, the law of all true living. Whatever Christ asks us to renounce, He offers in its stead something better. 1MPC 342.5 Mind Character and Personality, Vol. 1
In search of something better, we uprooted our family in its pursuit. Being resolved that God had allowed and answered our prayers of a perfect environment to raise our 3 children outside of the city, with its varied distractions. Did God really desire this or was it our forcing the hand of God?
I love family and being separated from my family was not an option, so I decided that even against the laws of the land, I would overstay my time taking counsel from my lawyers so I could remain with my family. Here is the irony in all of this. I was left alone, abandoned, and separated from the family I loved so much.
A Peak Inside
Chapter One
Moving to New York
Our lives are designed to constantly be in motion. We’re created to grow and move forward. Whenever it’s time for a new era in our lives, God sets up a scenario that forces us out of our comfort zone and points us in the direction of where he wants us to be. Ecclesiastes 3:1 affirms that there’s a time and a season for everything in life. My husband and I encountered several seasons, sunny and stormy, that forced growth despite the discomfort.
Our time at the academy expired. All of the signs made it clear that our presence was not meant to be there for long. In search of another job, my husband applied to virtually every Conference or School there was in New York. Which did not sit well with my position of not wanting to live in a big city with our kids. My aim was to make sure my children weren’t raised in a place like New York, but God’s plan has shown otherwise.

Wow, I just started reading this chapter and I’m already hooked! I love how Marlene starts with “being born with thunder thighs and genetically inclined to remain that way,” as most of us think of our weight issues — we blame our genetics — but then she goes on to write that it is important to commit our entire lives to God, allowing Him to transform our total being, and that includes our bodies, and that we should carry our requests to God without being anxious and going TO Him with an open heart, ready to receive His message for us.
It is encouraging to know that the Lord wants to help us in every area of our lives! Thank you for sharing your testimony with us, Marlene, and how awesome it is to see how the Lord is using you as in instrument of hope for change in those who are willing. There is always hope in Christ Jesus. THANK YOU! -
